Originally an Anglo-Saxon port, trading with Ireland since before 1050, Bristol has played an important role in the sea trade.
With this increasing trade Bristol grew greatly, expanding into other areas of trade such as boat construction; A trade that Bristol is famous for. With the construction of the floating harbour, designed by Bristol bred Isambard Kingdom Brunel, Bristol was at the top of the engineering industry and still remains intertwined with the industry today.
